Global Communication & The VCF Band – The Groove 3×12″ promo

1A1- info2A2- info3A3- info

This is the 1997 Dedicated Records 3×12″ promo release for the last official single by Global Communication. For the single, the duo collaborated with the otherwise unknown VCF Band for the recording session. Bringing their studio wizardry and the live funk of an actual band, the marrying of the two created something quite good, and vastly different from anything that had come from GC prior to this.
The eventual product was given to two of the up-and-coming producers of the time – Palm Skin Productions and Dego – for the remix treatment, along with a tasty reworking by Tom Middleton himself under his Modwheel alias, which all sit alongside some variations of the original done by GC themselves.
To say that this farewell single by the duo is something that warms my heart is an understatement. The top shelf production, the variety of the sound palette used and the overall good vibes this track exudes is what I think of when I think of Global Communication. I’m always a bit saddened to think that Tom and Mark ended their production partnership and went their separate ways, but they are both talented producers on their own and their productions always glimmer with pieces of the GC sound, even to this day.
Listening to works from the GC catalog is a treat for any music enthusiast, so I’m hoping that the promo presented here brightens your day the way it always brightens mine.
All six sides of the promo are here for your listening pleasure.

Freaky Chakra – Peace Fixation 12″

FC-PF

This is the second single by Daum Bentley (under his most well known production alias) and was released on the infamous NYC label Astralwerks.
The single comes with three different remixes of the same tune, all with varying shades of spacey, tripped-out funk and fluttering sounds that are laid down in multiple layers of sonic warmth. The tracks include everything from a well place DCD sample to harsh electro breakbeats and whisping backwards synth work to other-worldly sci-fi samples and crisp drum fills.
For Me, the highlight of this vinyl is the remix by Single Cell Orchestra. Taking some of the base elements and twisting them into a spastic electrified rework, the cut stands out as something that sounds oddly frightening, yet timeless and exceptionally executed.
All three versions are here for your listening enjoyment.

DJ Icee – Energy Traxx Vol. 1

DJI-ETV1

The first release by Orlando based DJ Icee, the EP contains so many stolen samples, beats and bits that anyone would be hard pressed to name them all (or find an original bit of musicality in any of the tunes). An amalgamation of all things energetic which worked very effectively on the audience he was aiming this EP towards – ravers, DJs and critics. Truly, this is one of the most important releases in DJ Icee’s catalog. If it weren’t for the massive amount of attention this EP garnered upon its release, he might not be where he is today.
All four traxx are here for your listening enjoyment.

content question

Now that the blog is really up and running here on wordpress, I was looking for some feedback.
As you can see, this version of ATIWYGWYLEI is slightly different from the previous version(s).
I’ve shuttered away the word-y content of the postings and kept it to a bare minimum.
But I’ve been wondering lately, do the people who visit the blog care for my ramblings about the music I post, or do they not care if I include anything other than info/purchase/download links?

With that said, anything you have to say about it would be appreciated.
Thanks.
